severance package

Once when Dem Abeshter blessed me with losing my job at OrthoView I was sent away with 0 Tadah le’Derech. I called some of my former Co-Workers to find out if they got any severance packages. Turns out that based on seniority they did??

I tell Pop that I found out that other former employees did get something, and I got Bubkis!!

Pop writes OrthoView’s attorneys a letter that went something like this…

To whom it may concern:

Based on our findings, it has come to my attention that several of your former sales reps received severance packages upon termination of employment.

In the spirit of the upcoming Passover holiday, I would like to know why my client is different from all others”…

Sof Kol Sof…5K check!

Passover 2000

Passover 2000, Hayat Dorado Beach Club, Dorado Puerto Rico. I was a Mashgiach for Presidential Kosher Holidays. Apparently the previous Mashgichim were too "Litvish American" and causing a lot of trouble. PKH decided to go with Lubavitch Mashgichim that year, not sure we were the answer they were looking for but we had a blast!!

David Mintz, the owner to Tofutti was a guest; he had so many awesome stories with the Rebbe. We found ourselves farbranging more that working! This was not a Chabad event, but Mr Mitntz wanted to share his Rebbe stories with us and all the guests during the seader.  Just as he sits down, a guest from the table over gets up and shares his story with the Rebbe. Then the next table and so on...Turns out EVERY family that year had a great personal sotry with the Rebbe. Our boss was so MAD!! After all our hard work they sent us home without paying us.

A full week goes by, no check in the mail!! I tell Pop that Presidential Kosher is stiffing me!!

“WHAT”!!!!!!

Pop gets on the phone:

KG : “ I want the name and phone number of EVERY guest”

PK: “Why”

KG: “I want to let them know Presidential Kosher don’t pay their Mashgichim”

Next day air envelope magically arrived the next day !!

Advice

When I was in Kfar Chabad back in ‘97, I had trouble adjusting to the meager accommodations of a real Israeli yeshiva.  I gave it some time to kick in, after about 5 months, I could not handle it anymore, I called pop to get his blessing to just come home. In one short line, pop gave me advice that helps me on a daily basis.

I said “Pop, I can’t stand this yeshaiva, I got 5 bouchrim in my room,  only shower is in the mikvah, the toilet paper is blue and killing me , salad for breakfast and diner with half a halva bar every other Tuesday and the small foam mattress!!”

His response was “STOP BEING A LITTLE (let’s just use this for the bolg) BABY”!!   And slammed down the phone!!

It’s this story that helps me now more than ever! Any time I find myself in in what I call a "Pop moment” I can never stay sad for too long, I can hear him saying STOP BEING A LITTLE….

In my last conversation with Pop, he told me that he was excited to be spending Rosh Hashnah with me in my new Chabad House in West Davie, FL.

It was on Erev Rosh Hahsnah when we named the Chabad Center in his memory. So in essence he did spend Rosh hashanah With me at my new Chabad House in West Davie, FL.
Shidduch Advice From Pop

The Sukkos after I got Smicha Pop and Ima gave me a gift and took me to Eretz Yisroel for Sukkos. It was an amazing and unforgettable trip. I would love to write about how pop helped Shaya Rubinstien with his written test for the army that was all about Israeli history and pop didn’t even need the book.
But instead I want to write about some amazing advice that pop gave me.
We were sitting in the pool at the Dan panorama hotel in Tel Aviv. Pop asked me “so Adi now that you have Smicha are you ready to get married”? I said “yes, but don’t worry I know exactly

what I want. I explained that I have a top 10 list and if a girl gets 6 out of 10 that she is the one.”
Tot started to laugh and with his very straight forward attitude he said “what the hell do you know about women?” you grew up in a house with mostly boys and lived in all boy dormitories your whole life.
He explained your job is to Daven to Hashem and have faith that he will send you the best possible women even better that your list. He said when I got to court I don’t need tolook at the history of the whiteness all I do is look at him and make him look like a fool. Just have the bitochen and it will be better than you could have imagined.

So now that I am about to celebrate my 7th wedding anniversary I can clearly say
“why didn’t I just stick to my list?”
jj he was absolutely right Hashem sent me better than I could have imagined

TA Graduation – Reuven, me and Reb Hillel Noach!

The first Yud in Yechi must have broke off his Yechi belt buckle!!

Gettysburg, PA

Pop has been talking about a trip to Gettysburg for weeks. He loves all history. This one Sunday he yells out “alright, get in the car…were going to Gettysburg”. We pile in the Cadillac, on the way up were getting a long shiur on the Civil War and how we have to learn to respect history….

We pull in to Gettysburg, up there with all the gift shops we see an old time picture studio. Pop loved getting these old time pics done. We wait around til the pic is ready for about 20 min. From there pop said “we already got a good parking spot, let’s walk to the main cemetery” . We start walking, about 3 minutes in pop asks a local “how far til the cemetery?” He tells us we got about 20 min walk. Pop says “man, I thought I knew my way round here better, let’s get back in the car”

We finally pull up to the heart of Gettysburg, can’t find a parking spot?? After bout 5 seconds pop says “Ahh, the hell with it, let’s go home. U seen one cemetery, you’ve seen ‘em all”. So basically, we drove out to Gettysburg, took a pic, and came home. Good times!

Dor le'Dor

Great story we heard at Shiva, from a long time client.
______________________________________

“30 years ago I beat up 5 police officers. I had just gotten out of the US army; don’t know what I was thinking.  I must have been only 145 Lbs., but I was really strong. I don’t know how your father did it, but he got the judge to drop the charges!!

He asked the judge “Although my client was completely wrong, how were 5 of Baltimore City’s finest not able to restrain one 145 lbs. man? These charges are an embarrassment to the city”

Years later my son got into some trouble with the law. Your father sat him down in his office, looked him straight in the eye’s and said “Son, I will make sure you don’t see one minute of jail time if you promise to straighten out your way”. His day in court came and just like your father said, he did not see one minute. Of course it did help that your father was friends with the judge that day!! Unfortunately, that son could not stay out of trouble, wound up in jail.

Now here we are in 2011 and my grandson Jamal is a current client of your fathers. When your father passed I called up all my boys and told them “Mr. Goodman is not here no more, we are all going to have to straighten up. No one that can save us anymore” What are we going to do?”

Pics from my wedding!

From Tamir: Genuine Love

Pop had genuine love for all Yidden. We know how much he loved Chabad and Chasidus but he also supported everyone that ever came to him. Last Sukkos he gave a Dvar Torah in the Sukkah about respecting Zionists and never speaking bad about Israel.
Last March he scheduled a trip to visit us in Cleveland for Shabbos. At lunchtime I heard that there was a big snow storm heading our way. I called pop in the office and told him about the storm. Even though his office was packed with clients he rescheduled his flight and landed on the last flight to Cleveland before the storm. He was reading a Litvishe book called Faith In The Night about the Mesiras Nefesh during to Shoah. After he read the book he said to me "know one should ever make fun of litvishe yidden or kollels etc.. What they went through.. One of the many lessons we learn from him is to love all Jews and appreciate them regardless of their affiliation. Never look for Kavod or think you're was is the only and best way. He had the most amazing Neshama and he was able to aprreciate and see the beauty in everyone's neshama.
